On 21st February 2026, the Rotary Club of Kisumu marked a significant milestone, being officially recognized as a Heritage Club within Rotary District 9212. This recognition places the club among the most historic and impactful Rotary clubs in the district—an honor that reflects decades of dedicated service and community transformation.
Celebrating Legacy and Service
Chartered in 1963, the Rotary Club of Kisumu stands proudly as the 5th oldest club in Rotary District 9212. For over six decades, the club has played a pivotal role in driving impactful initiatives in health, education, water and sanitation, and economic empowerment within Kisumu and beyond.
Being named a Heritage Club is not only a recognition of longevity, but also a celebration of sustained service, leadership, and commitment to Rotary’s ideals of Service Above Self.

This recognition was highlighted during the State of the District Address, a key moment in the Rotary calendar that allows members to reflect on achievements and set priorities for the future.
In her address, District Governor Wairimu Njage, emphasized the importance of reflection and renewed commitment:
“It is time to pause, reflect, and chart the way forward for the second half of our journey as Rotary District 9212.”
The address celebrated milestones achieved in the last 13 years in formation of Rotary District 9212 and first half of the Rotary year 2025/2026, while also inspiring clubs to sharpen their focus and accelerate impact in the months ahead.
A New Chapter for Rotary District 9212
As the district continues to grow, an exciting transition lies ahead. With effect from July 1, 2026, Rotary District 9212 will be reorganized into two separate districts:
- District 9215
- District 9216
The Rotary Club of Kisumu will be part of District 9215, opening a new chapter of service, collaboration, and expanded reach.
